The Post

2018 (UK), Drama/Thriller, 1h 57m

Starring: Meryl Streep, Tom Hanks, Sarah Paulson, Matthew Rhys, Alison Brie & Bradley Whitford

Katharine Graham is the first female publisher of a major American newspaper — The Washington Post. With help from editor Ben Bradlee, Graham races to catch up with The New York Times to expose a massive cover-up of government secrets that spans three decades and four U.S. presidents. Together, they must overcome their differences as they risk their careers — and very freedom — to help bring long-buried truths to light.

Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks staring in a Steven Spielberg movie? Surely this will be amazing!… Meh.

It was a really interesting ticktock thriller about the freedom of the press, the White House’s war on that constitutional right, and the woman who defended freedom – it just wasn’t entertaining.

If the point of the movie is that politicians lie, well, it’s about 70 years too late. The whole film was just full of nothingness.

Saying all this though, I must admit that the entire cast do brilliantly with what they are given, but that’s to be expected when Streep and Hanks are top billing!
