Sherlock Gnomes

2018 (UK), Fantasy/Mystery, 1h 26m

Starring: Johnny Depp, Emily Blunt, James McAvoy, Michael Caine, Stephen Merchant, Mary J Blige & Maggie Smith

After a string of garden gnome disappearances in London, Gnomeo & Juliet look to legendary detective Sherlock Gnomes to solve the case of their missing friends and family.

This is your standard, plastic, pink flamingo of a movie, colourful, cute and fun, but kinda tacky, too. The biggest problem with Sherlock Gnomes is that this universe seems limited in its possibilities- imagine Toy Story with one kind of toy.

Although, baring in mind this is aimed at kids, it is fairly amusing, and delivers some genuinely funny moments.

It’s visually very nice to look at, and it’s an interesting take on the greatest detective story of all time! You actually grow to like, care about and feel empathy for these characters, completely forgetting that they’re meant to be garden ornaments.

Hollywood needs to stop casting Johnny Depp though, especially in kids films.
