Davis Okoye, a man who keeps people at a distance but shares an unshakable bond with George, the extraordinarily intelligent, incredibly rare albino silverback gorilla who has been in his care since he rescued the young orphan from poachers. But a rogue genetic experiment gone awry mutates this gentle ape into a raging creature of enormous size. To make matters worse, it’s soon discovered there are other similarly altered animals.
Oh come on, who thought this would be a good idea? It’s aggressively dumb, and I’d feel safe in the assumption that everyone was in on the joke if it weren’t for the absence of any good ones!
Even the immensely likeable Johnson can’t save this video-game based adventure from its cringe-worthy dialogue and ridiculous premise. Seeing the big guy grin and flex his muscles during action stunts, featuring so-so CGI, is probably enough for fans, but this is definitely from The Rock’s bottom shelf.
Naomie Harris is wasted in this movie, surely she’s better than this!
I went in with no expectations, and it still ended up being worse than I thought it’d be.
